Description:  Are you someone who likes to work in a biology lab and would like to learn how professors prepare for the lab, and what our student researchers do? Consider applying for the position of Biology Lab Assistant at the Habeger Science Center.

Main job duties: Assist a professor with setting up and tearing down labs. This includes making media/reagents, setting up microscope/ lab instruments and dishes needed during the lab setup, and tearing down the lab by autoclaving/cleaning and storing the materials back in the cabinets. Assist a professor with grading homework and tests as needed. The biology professor or the lab manager will be available to supervise the candidate for the work details, but the candidate is expected to work independently or follow written and verbal directions. Although this position is designated for biology lab-related work, the candidate is expected to be flexible to work in other science labs or do general office duties occasionally as needed. The candidate must be on campus for laboratory work, but data-related work can be done off campus.

 

Skills/Coursework Required: A biology background is a must and high school courses may be acceptable. 1) having taken an intro. to Biology course and have some experience in labs is desirable. 2) be able to learn quickly and work with minimal supervision, 3) be responsible and dependable 4) possess an interest in biological sciences. 

Skills/Coursework Preferred (must be different from required skills): 

Attention to detail and the ability to work without supervision is very important.
